Nanoencapsulation made easy through reactive nanoemulsion solvent evaporation

DESCRIPTION

NanOcApps aims at developing a robust and high throughput method for the preparation of crosslinked nanocapsules in the kg range, at low cost and having flexible payload. The application spectrum for such formulations is vast and includes controlled release, selective delivery, catalysis and cosmetics. Capsules production is based on an original modification of the mini emulsion solvent evaporation method, while crosslinking is realized through a facile and fully scalable approach: the prefunctionalization of cellulose (a cheap, renewable raw material) with a curing agent. Such an approach allows to encapsulate every water insoluble material, including liquids. An additional advantage of the process deals with the possibility to recover the nanocapsulses as reversible aggregates by coagulation. Such a process makes it possible to proceed by standard filtration instead of centrifuging. The process is batch and designed to provide samples in the kg range, continuous production is under development.

Photosensitive composition for 3D printing

ABSTRACT

A non-toxic photo-polymerizable resin is proposed suitable for use in 3D printing with stereolitographic technique with Digital Light Processing system. The resin is obtained from biocompatible natural products, easily available and inexpensive, easily disposable and biodegradable. These natural products can be vegetable oils, even exhausted vegetable oils.

DESCRIPTION

The stereolithographic 3D printing technique uses a single light beam to polymerize a photosensitive resin, drawing on it fine layers of polymer that are repeated and superimposed until the printing is complete. The advantages offered by this technique are various: high quality surface finishes due to voxels reduced dimensions, fast printing processes and a wide choice of materials to work with. However, the industrial resins currently on the market are composed of very toxic and polluting substances, totally non-bio-compatible, which pose the problem of waste in the processes of 3D printing.

The use of a hoto-polymerizable resin obtained from biocompatible natural materials fits well into a circular economy concept while allowing for of stereolithographic 3D printing benefits.

ADVANTAGES

  • Economic;
  • Easy availability of the raw material;
  • Bio-compatible

APPLICATIONS

  • Medical 3D printing
  • Biological 3D printing
